The restyling of the “Il Molino” Shopping Center transforms an obsolete structure into a contemporary urban landmark. The concept is driven by subtraction, removing outdated elements to reveal a cleaner, more harmonious form. The south façade becomes the main stage, featuring two new wood-effect aluminum entrances that convey warmth, identity, and visibility. A dynamic sequence of vertical aluminum brise-soleil, angled differently, generates movement, rhythm, and a vibrant play of light and shadow. Sand-colored cladding, anthracite aluminum details, and integrated LED strips enrich the architectural language, enhancing perception both by day and by night. Far beyond a cosmetic update, the project reshapes the mall’s identity into a modern, welcoming, and recognizable hub.
The project transforms the shopping center into a contemporary urban landmark, seamlessly integrated within its commercial surroundings. By removing outdated volumes and obsolete elements, the design achieves a cleaner and more dynamic architecture. Vertical aluminum brise-soleil, warm wood-effect entrances, and integrated LED lighting redefine the façades, creating rhythm, light, and a welcoming identity. Without altering the landscape or the nearby Misa River view, the intervention elevates the image of the entire area, turning a dated structure into a vibrant and recognizable destination that enriches the urban fabric.
The choice of painted metal for the building envelope stems from the need to combine functionality, aesthetics, and durability. Unlike other materials, metal ensures structural lightness, easy installation, and low maintenance—key factors in a restyling project that does not alter volumes but renews the building’s image. Architecturally, metal allows the creation of vertical brise-soleil with variable angles, generating dynamic plays of light and shadow. Its painted finish resists weathering, guarantees long-lasting color uniformity, and integrates LED lighting to reinforce a contemporary and recognizable identity. Versatile and sustainable, metal fits seamlessly into the urban context, enhancing the area with a modern, clean, and welcoming architectural language.
The project was developed with strong attention to sustainability and eco-compatibility, adopting strategies to reduce environmental impact and improve energy performance. The use of painted metal and wood-effect aluminum ensures durability, recyclability, and low maintenance, extending the building’s lifecycle. A new insulated façade system enhances thermal efficiency, reducing energy loss and improving comfort. LED lighting technology integrated into façade grooves provides dynamic effects with minimal energy consumption. The design concept, based on subtraction rather than adding volumes, limited the use of new resources and favored sustainable reuse of the existing structure.
The restyling of the “Il Molino” Shopping Center stands out for transforming an outdated building into a contemporary urban landmark. A key strength lies in the strategy of subtraction, removing obsolete elements to reveal a cleaner and more coherent architecture. The new south façade becomes the design focus, with two wood-effect aluminum entrances that provide warmth, identity, and visibility. A sequence of vertical painted metal brise-soleil, each set at different angles, creates rhythm, movement, and dynamic light effects. Durable and sustainable materials, lighting and an insulated façade system, enhance both efficiency and aesthetics. In essence, the project merges functionality, innovation, and sustainability, delivering a modern, welcoming, and highly recognizable identity.
FIMA is a multidisciplinary studio for Architecture
Alongside architectural design, which has always been a core business, there are all those preparatory disciplines for the design of buildings and spaces capable of arousing emotions: architects, engineers, energy managers, economic managers, render artists, cad, bim and AI experts, create a multifaceted team that guarantees a 360-degree approach to architecture. FIMA is a studio capable of tacking any type of project: from the interior design of luxury spaces, to the design of commercial buildings, from restoration projects of buildings of high artistic value to restyling and energy requalification of disused industrial spaces. A constant growth, matured in thirty years of presence on the market, has brought the studio to an international level. Today FIMA works in China, Iraq, Iran, Libya and KSA. FIMA projects are born from people and focus on people, their needs and the spaces in which they live.
