The building operated for a long time to transform energy and transmit it to the heart of the city, and for over three decades it has been in a state of suspension, impermeable to the vitality of the surrounding environment, waiting for a new identity. The structure has hidden its spatial articulation, waiting to be reconverted to new needs by the non-profit association Re-Use With Love, winner of the redevelopment tender: in a regeneration process that will maintain the memory of the building's industrial past but will generate a new memory for all those who will cross it and use its spaces. A translation respectful of tradition; a metamorphosis that combines origins with the present.

The architectural project has adopted specific strategies aimed at reconnecting the building to the context of the Park through the opening of an entrance on the south front, reachable from Viale Stenio Polischi through a new paved pedestrian path. All the original acoustic grilles have been removed and the openings resized to become large glazed windows, capable of transmitting natural light to the underlying rooms. To overcome the difference in level between the park and the internal mezzanine, a wooden platform has been built with a staircase and a gentle ramp, to allow access to all. This last element is conceived not only as a connection tool but also as a permanent furniture, being equipped with linear seating facing the Park.
The project maintains and enhances the current entrance of the Power Plant, located at the level of Viale Giovanni Gozzadini, which, while maintaining the geometries of the original iron portal, becomes a glazed infill together with the peculiar existing circular openings. The increased contribution of natural lighting and ventilation, the efficiency of the building envelope, and the installation of radiant floors will allow for consumption control and greater internal comfort for users.
In its entirety, the architectural intervention is characterized by restoration and rehabilitation actions of the existing structures, as well as structural interventions aimed at improving safety conditions, but also by the introduction of new elements, which interpret the changed needs by approaching the industrial past of the building with their materiality and finish. An ideal dialogue between the original technical elements restored, such as the electrical insulators hung from the high ceilings of the power plant, the new project surfaces, and the new lighting bodies; between the walls that show the signs of structural rehabilitation and the new metal elements that surround the openings. A project that marries architectural re-use with social re-use.
Leopolda Sassoli, Vice-President of the association, continues: "By winning the redevelopment tender, we immediately made that proposal our own, sharing it with a visionary architect who has always loved our city. Like us, he had no doubts about the value of the project, offering us his unconditional support.
Seeing the invisible, grasping the constitutive nature of things, is the conceptual reason that links the path of CONTROLUCE, a team of professionals with multiple and complementary skills that aims to decline Architecture at different scales and in its most varied expressions. The team is dedicated in particular to architectural and urban design, working in both public and private sectors with a particular attention to environmental and social sustainability. Among the main works carried out, the following should be mentioned: The redevelopment of the former Enel power plant in the Giardini Margherita park in Bologna; The design of the new "Le Badie" School Complex in Castellina Marittima; The final-executive project for the redevelopment and re-functionalization of the former Church of the Piarist Fathers in Pieve di Cento; The final-executive project for the restructuring of the "Casa per anziani" and the socio-healthcare center in Castel D'Aiano
