The initial owner was planning to demolish the Bengbu rice factory. But when we went to the site for on-site inspection, we found that the rice factory complex covers factories from various historical periods such as the 1950s, 1960s, and 1980s, just like geological faults record the industrial architectural styles of different periods in Bengbu City. Especially the huge rice storage facility within the venue, measuring 60 * 25 meters, is truly awe inspiring. The indoor wooden frame has rich details and a strong sense of history. In order to preserve the memory of the city, we have preserved these old factories, which have been functionally updated into the community's library, cultural center, and a cultural and creative park serving the citizens.

There is a railway track within the project that used to transport rice to the rice factory. We will keep this railway track and update both sides of the track to become railway parks, integrating with the cultural and creative park of the rice factory. The cultural and creative park will seamlessly connect the rice mill complex, Yuhui District Government, waterfront park, and railway park. By preserving the original historical traces as much as possible, bring new vitality into this post industrial factory area.

The structure and exterior materials of the factory buildings on the site have been preserved, making full use of the space of the old factory buildings. Local roofs have been replaced with glass to introduce sunlight into the interior of the building, which can save energy. Simultaneously set up an openable sunroof to improve natural ventilation. The railway tracks within the site have also been preserved, retaining historical elements and updated into a railway park. These measures all embody the concept of ecological sustainability. The current trees within the site have also been preserved to maintain the biodiversity of the site.

The Bengbu Rice Mill was established in 1950. Its complex of buildings, encompassing structures from the 1950s, 1960s, and 1980s, records the industrial architectural styles of different periods in Bengbu like geological fault lines, creating a rich historical atmosphere and architectural texture. With the times advancing, the Bengbu Rice Mill will relocate elsewhere. The original complex has fulfilled its historical mission and faces demolition. To preserve the city's memory and cultural continuity, the Yuhui District Government has decided to renew the former mill site into a regional cultural center and a creative cultural park serving citizens. The cultural center will include a cultural center, archives, library, petition center, and creative office spaces. This will become an "urban living room" where citizens can linger throughout the day. A cultural promenade links the library and the cultural center, while the train-themed museum, small theater, and lecture hall will attract people of all ages, catalyzing diverse cultural activities. The exterior facade and internal structure of the warehouse in the rice factory have been fully preserved. The rice factory office building has a typical style of the 1980s, and its exterior has been fully preserved, except for cleaning the walls and replacing doors and windows.

The rice mill workshops, bearing the weight of history, are thus reborn. The industrial imprints of New China are preserved. Old and new architecture, materials, and components from different eras and textures interweave here, composing a symphony of "preservation and innovation" in urban space. The Bengbu Rice Mill—this former warehouse storing physical sustenance—is now successfully transforming into an urban cultural space outputting spiritual sustenance.
