Located in front of a public coast in Yaqian District, Sanya City, the buildings were originally a sales center and consists of two large and small mushroom houses. Due to the concrete and enclosed nature, they were incompatible with the open coastal atmosphere. The renovation design, centered around the concept of "disappearance", transforms the mushroom-shaped roof into three suspended, cloud-like curved surfaces, and it reduces the visual impact of the building volume on the coastal skyline through the low-hanging streamlined form. The edge of the roof is close to the ground and forms a continuous under-roof grey space, which helps to shield from the sunshine and guarantee ventilation.

The service center aims to respect nature and activate urban vitality, transforms the original "mushroom house" building complex into a public space that coexists with the coast, providing citizens with a poetic and functional coastal venue. The renovated space is no longer confined to a single functional attribute. Instead, it has added various complementary functions such as a bar, a reading room, coffee area, leisure area, and viewing area. A viewing platform is added to the top of the crescent-shaped earthen building, with its curve echoing that of the roof and jointly forming the imagery of "the nebula hanging low". The buildings, which are no longer abrupt symbols, gracefully blend into the mountains and the sea, and become an extension of the natural landscape.
By breaking the isolation between the building and the interior space, this project enables the building space to grow inwardly-the mushroom-shaped building retains the structural parts, and the old columns appear as exposed nodes, achieving a natural integration and dialogue with the newly added parts. The top surface presents a romantic starry effect, extending, fusing and disappearing from the inside out. In the middle, there is an integrated rotating bar counter. The floor and furniture present a dynamic upward growth effect. The elimination of cumbersome decorations and complex materials reflects the design concept.
Regarding the structural design, it was found that the main structure of original buildings had defects in its connection methods and poor construction quality. Furthermore, the maximum overhanging eaves of the renovated large mushroom house is increased by approximately 10 meters, which leads to problems such as strengthening the wind resistance and earthquake resistance of the main structure, reinforcing the beam-column joints, and handling the connection points between new and old components. Considering that the roof is an Irregular curved surface, the project adopts the form of curtain wall enclosure, and the detailed design of the curtain wall components needs to be closely integrated with the detailed design of the main structure to ensure the dimensional accuracy of the component processing.
The design emphasizes a certain "unfinished quality", meaning that the fixed facilities merely provide the basic framework, and for more activities such as outdoor movies and small concerts, it is up to the citizens to explore and discover them on their own, so as to make the building truly become a container for urban life. The renovated venue has attracted a large number of visitors, significantly enhancing the vitality of the city.
