C A S A M I A, a luminous top-floor apartment reimagined through light and texture

The apartment has been reimagined by breaking away from the typical layout of the time, which featured a central corridor that limited the optimal use of natural light in the living area.
The living space has been transformed into an openspace area that fully benefits from the light streaming through the large south-facing windows.
The interior design — partly custom-made — is thus entrusted with defining the character of the space and its specific functions.

Entrance

Located on the top floor of a residential building from the early 1960s, the apartment has been renovated to enhance its prime position. The choice to emphasize the living area — created by merging three rooms with different original functions into a spacious open space — allows natural light to flood the interiors, enhancing their brightness. The project is defined by the alternation of architectural concrete — the true fil rouge connecting the various spaces — wood, used in flooring and furnishings, and metal in the accessories: three materials that interact and alternate, bringing dynamism to the interiors.

Living

The entrance and living area are defined by two custom-designed pieces of furniture that both mark their function and connect them to the kitchen area.
A continuous, textural surface separates the living area from the sleeping quarters.
A flush-to-wall door interrupts this continuity, opening onto a neutral yet discreetly high-tech hallway.
The bathroom is enveloped in the warm, textural embrace of microcement, complemented by essential furnishings made up of a few carefully designed storage volumes.
The master bedroom breaks the chromatic dialogue of the living area by replacing its deep, rich hue of Canaletto walnut with the pastel tones of jute and hemp.

Bio

Born in 1983, he graduated in Architecture from the Politecnico di Milano in 2009. He has worked in renovation and conservative restoration, closely collaborating with craftsmen and technicians—first as a student, then as a professional. In 2011, he founded archi-lab | laboratorio di architettura as a space for research and design, aiming to turn architectural knowledge into practical know-how. His approach reinterprets the conventional with a critical eye, always seeking harmony and elegance. Diversity is seen not as a quest for originality, but as a dialogue with spaces that are, by nature, always unique. He creates custom furnishings and products, combining forms to achieve functional, balanced, and distinctive results.
