Mental Design Works

Envoy Vadi was conceived as a response to the rigid, monolithic development model imposed by the existing zoning plan. Instead, the project proposes a permeable, layered settlement strategy that responds sensitively to the site’s natural topography. The concept was shaped around the idea of a terraced architectural form that aligns with the land’s slope, forming a valley-like composition. This valley acts not only as a circulation route but also as a shared social spine, encouraging interaction and communal life.Through the use of natural materials, sustainable design strategies, and diverse housing typologies, the project presents a contemporary yet nature-integrated living model that respects the land and redefines urban density.

Envoy Vadi offers a layered and topography-sensitive settlement model that harmonizes with its surroundings rather than conflicting with them. The buildings are terraced along the natural slope of the land, while the massing is fragmented to allow the passage of light, air, and views. A linear social axis organizes public life across the site, supported by sustainable strategies such as green roofs, water reuse systems, and sun-oriented façades. The architecture, shaped with natural materials, establishes a language that is both contemporary and rooted in regional identity. By integrating with nature, the project transforms the terrain into an active and guiding element of the design.

Envoy Vadi

Envoy Vadi has been designed with an environmentally conscious and sustainable approach. Environmental data such as solar exposure, wind direction, rainfall, and topography were analyzed, and the project was shaped accordingly to optimize natural ventilation, daylight use, and energy efficiency.Green roof systems enhance thermal insulation while collecting rainwater for reuse, reducing the need for irrigation. Buildings are oriented based on sunlight data to minimize energy consumption. Local, recyclable, and low-carbon materials were selected to reduce environmental impact. Additionally, a pedestrian-focused circulation network was established to limit car dependency and promote sustainable mobility

Envoy Vadi is located on a 5,440-square-meter sloped site in Beykoz, Istanbul. The project rejects the rigid, monolithic urban blocks imposed by current zoning plans and instead proposes a permeable, layered settlement model that harmonizes with the natural topography. The buildings are terraced along the site's natural slope, positioned to maximize access to views, daylight, and natural ventilation. The architectural massing creates a valley-like formation, with a linear void running through the site. This space functions not only as a circulation route but also as a social spine that connects users, facilitates community activities, and organizes public life. The architectural language is defined by simple materials and a contemporary expression. Each housing unit is directly linked to views, green areas, and water features, and flexible layouts have been developed to meet the needs of various users.Sustainability is prioritized through green roofs, rainwater harvesting, natural ventilation, and energy-efficient facades. Local, eco-friendly, and low-carbon materials have been selected, and pedestrian-oriented circulation promotes environmentally conscious mobility.Envoy Vadi represents a contemporary settlement model that integrates with nature and treats topography not as a constraint, but as a guiding element of design.

Envoy Vadi offers a living experience in harmony with nature. Openings frame views of the sea, vegetation, and sky, blending indoor spaces with the landscape. The design follows the site’s natural flow, avoiding imposed forms. Communal courtyards and shared spaces encourage social interaction, creating an integrated, vibrant community.
