  1. Terraced Layout: The clean, geometric layout reflects modern architectural trends commonly associated with urban developments. Its elevated positioning suggests a connection to urban luxury.
  2. Amenities in Context: Features like a pool, fire pit, outdoor seating areas, and a hot tub cater to an upscale demographic often found in urban or suburban developments near desirable locations (e.g., beachfronts or city centers).

Overall, the project appears to create a private oasis that enhances the interaction between indoor and outdoor spaces while taking advantage of its likely proximity to urban or natural attractions. The thoughtful integration of landscaping highlights a commitment to aesthetic appeal and functionality.

A breathtaking top-down view of the illuminated luxury pool area at night, complete with a cozy fire pit, lush landscaping, and a private spa, creating a serene oasis.

Material Selection:

  • The light-colored paving materials likely have high solar reflectance, which can minimize heat absorption and contribute to cooling the area.
  • Durable materials appear to be used, reducing the need for frequent replacement and minimizing resource use over time.
  • Energy Efficiency:

    • The outdoor seating and lounging areas make use of natural shading (from umbrellas and trees), reducing the need for energy-intensive cooling systems.
    • Smart Design:

      • The layout maximizes the use of natural light, which can help reduce the reliance on artificial lighting during daytime hours.
    • Greenery Integration:

      • The inclusion of extensive greenery, such as trees, shrubs, and planters, suggests efforts to reduce the heat island effect and improve air quality.

  1. Aesthetic Appeal:

    • The seamless combination of natural and built elements creates a sophisticated and serene outdoor setting.
    • Minimalist and modern design enhances the overall elegance.
  2. Functionality:

    • The design caters to diverse needs: relaxation (lounge chairs), entertainment (fire pit and dining area), and recreation (pool and hot tub).
    • The layout ensures usability for both large gatherings and individual moments of solitude.
  3. Atmosphere of Privacy and Exclusivity:

    • The use of strategic planting and sectional design ensures a sense of seclusion even in a potentially dense urban area.
  4. Potential for Sustainability:

    • The inclusion of vegetation, light-colored materials, and natural ventilation elements suggests attention to environmental considerations.

The concrete work at the 101 pool and spa renovation spared no expense and a big reason why it remains a large focal point to anyone who's seen this incredible project. Trademark Concrete Systems & the design team (HA+MA & fpld) joined forces early on during preconstruction developing two extremely high end concrete finishes. Both "bright white" - inclusive of both white sand and white cement. To execute this installation white sand was transported by Super10 from the Bay area down to CalPortland's Santa Monica plant and hand loaded on site. The two paving types on the project alternate between a white sand finish & honed finish. The honed finished paving was creating by hand seeding white granite along the top of the paving and later exposing the aggregate with a hand planetary grinder. The sand finish texture was created using a surface retarder. These two striking paving types really come to life in the evening as the property is illuminated with various landscape/hardscape lighting
