The Collection Museum is conceived as the main cultural and exhibition space of the large-scale ZILART residential area, built on the territory of the former ZIL plant. The museum building is located on the Vesnin Brothers Boulevard, the central pedestrian artery of this new neighborhood. The building's exterior is captivating with its apparent simplicity - before us is a laconic cubic volume wrapped in a looped trapezoidal grid structure. This design has been created using copper panels.

On the main facade, the copper grid frames translucent glass panes, while on the side and rear facades, where there are few windows, the grid is filled in with copper corrugated panels. The depth of the corrugation is 50 mm, giving the surface assembled from such panels visual depth and creating an interesting play of light and shadow. In all the facades of the museum, copper has been used in its natural form, without any processing. In other words, due to weather conditions these facades will be constantly changing – both in color and texture – embodying architecture that lives with the passing of time.
Exactly the same copper has been used in the interiors of the museum's public areas: here, due to the inherently less corrodent environment, the metal retains its original bright shade, but will be gradually covered with a patina from traces of visitors’ contact with the metal surfaces. The first floor of the museum is a public space accessible to all – the entrance area, a cloakroom, a bookstore and an interactive area for children are located here. But the multi-storied atrium itself is the most impressive, 30 meters high, with a design that features glistening copper and enhanced by graffiti on the escalator surfaces that was created by four famous street art artists.
Сopper is responsible for the artistry here – it is a living material, unpredictable in many ways, and especially consonant with the function of spaces designed to display contemporary art.
SPEECH architectural office established in 2006 specializes in designing buildings and complexes with various functional purposes, developing urban concepts, as well as designing interiors.
