Walking along Tianmu Road, which serves as the east-west transportation artery of Hangzhou, the artificial skyline gradually fades away into the lush greenery of Xixi Wetland and the Laohe Mountain. Hangzhou West Station Bus Hub perches in the overlapping area where these two scenes meet. The design aims to continue the natural landscape through the wedge-shaped blocks and incorporate the Hangzhou West Bus Station and subway station located on the west side of the site, providing convenient transfer for passengers. It is mainly positioned as a public transportation supporting facility in the area around the West Bus Station, specific functions including transfer hub of subways and buses, traffic dispatch center and administrative office etc.

The design pays great attention to the layout and details of the hub station, aiming to establish a clear and simple bus station transfer system in surrounding areas. The partially elevated area on the ground floor of the building is designed for bus passage. The independent yet integrated bus parking function and administration function can overcome the limitations imposed by limited land area and achieve the optimal accessibility for both people and vehicles. In addition, the umbrella-shaped canopy roof of the waiting island, which serves as a link between the city and nature, makes the terminal station appear more light and graceful, thus achieving an integrated design of image and function.

Due to the relatively long shape of the building, this design adopts a mode of interlocking and interpenetrating for the podium and the high-rise blocks, as well as a contrast between the void and the solid in the facade to weaken the strong sense of volume. The void part is designed with glass curtain walls, giving the whole structure a grand and imposing appearance. The solid part adopts white metal perforated panels and floor-to-ceiling windows, which create a rhythmic facade texture, appear transparent and orderly, avoid exposure to the western sunlight.

The wide shelter canopy covering the entire bus stop platform and waiting area can protect passengers from the wind and rain. The surface of the steel-framed canopy is covered with perforated metal aluminum panels, and the lighting equipment is installed on the surface. The rhythm, the facade, and the rhythmic umbrella-shaped canopy create an elegant resonance, resulting in a pleasant visual experience.

In terms of parking area, after comparing various modes such as island-style, centralized mode, and diagonal parking, the design selects the diagonal bus parking mode to ensure the transfer at the same horizontal level, clear routes, and complete separation of pedestrians and vehicles. The highly accessible diagonal parking mode can minimize the interference among bus flow line, vehicle flow line and passenger flow line to the greatest extent, truly creating an efficient and convenient transportation flow line.

Hangzhou West Station Bus Hub contains 7 bus routes and 21 bus parking spaces. The umbrella-shaped canopy roof of the waiting island, which serves as a link between the city and nature, makes the terminal station appear more light and graceful, thus achieving an integrated design of image and function. This facility can improve the convenience and comfort of passenger travel in the urban area on the west side of Hangzhou and create a clear and pleasant transportation transfer flow line.
