Galsan Plastic Factory: a modern, efficient, and sustainable facility

The idea for the Galsan Plastic Factory project stemmed from the company's need to expand its production capacity and consolidate various functions—such as management, production, and social spaces—under one roof. With 45 years of experience in plastic injection within the automotive industry, Galsan Plastik sought a modern, efficient, and sustainable facility. IGLO Architects developed the concept based on this need, prioritizing a compact yet highly functional layout that integrates two large single-story halls and double-height storage areas. The design focuses on maximizing production efficiency while providing a healthy and enjoyable environment for employees.

GALSAN PLASTIC FACTORY

Located in the Dilovası Makinacılar Organized Industrial Zone, the Galsan Plastic Factory is embedded in an industrial context. The architectural approach responds to the industrial setting through its clear functional zoning and efficient layout. At the same time, the inclusion of open terraces and green garden areas softens the industrial tone and provides a contrast that enhances the work environment. These outdoor elements allow the building to engage with its surroundings by offering pockets of nature within an otherwise utilitarian zone.

GALSAN PLASTIC FACTORY

Yes, sustainability was a core consideration in the project. Several strategies and technologies were employed:

  • Recyclable materials were used throughout the construction to reduce environmental impact.
  • Solar energy systems were implemented to generate a portion of the facility’s power.
  • Rainwater and greywater collection systems allow water to be reused in non-potable applications, supporting resource conservation.
  • Natural lighting is maximized through thoughtful design, reducing the need for artificial lighting during the day and enhancing energy efficiency.
These eco-friendly strategies collectively support lower operational costs and reduce the building’s ecological footprint.

GALSAN PLASTIC FACTORY

The Galsan Plastic Factory stands out for its seamless integration of various functional areas within a clean, organized, and sustainable structure. Spanning a 20,000 m² closed area and employing 300 people, the project combines production, storage, management, and social spaces in a single complex. Key strengths include:

  • Modular layout with two large single-story production halls and multi-level storage
  • Sustainability-driven design incorporating renewable energy and water reuse systems
  • Employee well-being focus, with airy workspaces, open terraces, and garden zones
  • Efficient space usage that doubles the company’s production capacity

GALSAN PLASTIC FACTORY
The Galsan Plastic Factory exemplifies how industrial architecture can evolve beyond functionality to embrace sustainability, user comfort, and environmental responsibility. It reflects a future-forward approach where production and human-centric design coexist harmoniously. The collaboration between Galsan Plastik and IGLO Architects has resulted in a facility that not only meets the operational needs of a growing company but also sets a new standard for eco-conscious industrial design.
