The new Busca School Campus is designed to be a landmark for the community, combining functionality, morphology, and environment. The building, which houses a primary and a secondary school, features a curvilinear "X" shape across three levels, adapting to the site and fostering integration with outdoor spaces. Inspired by the "Scuola senza zaino" (Backpack-free school) philosophy, the project promotes participation and autonomy through flexible and multifunctional spaces. The ground floor serves as a meeting point between the school and the community, while an artistic mural on the main staircase symbolizes the students' growth journey. The diamond-shaped façades give the building a unique identity within the urban context.

The Busca School Campus is a space where architecture seamlessly integrates with the landscape, transforming learning into an experience that extends beyond the classroom and establishing itself as a key civic landmark. The spatial configuration fosters a strong dialogue with the surrounding environment, turning the garden and outdoor areas into more than just places for social interaction—they become true open-air learning environments, where education is enriched by direct engagement with nature. The campus’ permeability towards the city reinforces the sense of belonging to the territory, while its architectural identity makes it a recognizable and integral element within the urban fabric.
The project was developed with a strong focus on sustainability, adopting innovative construction strategies and eco-friendly materials. The building utilizes X-LAM technology, a cross-laminated timber system that provides excellent mechanical performance, thermal and acoustic insulation, while reducing manufacturing and operational costs. Wood, a renewable and low-impact material, is combined with thermally broken aluminum frames and low-emissivity glazing, enhancing energy efficiency and indoor comfort. The project has achieved the ITACA Protocol certification, recognizing its high standards in environmental sustainability, energy savings, and the quality of living spaces.
The new Busca School Complex embodies a perfect balance between architecture, innovative education, and connection with the surrounding territory. Its X-shaped layout, developed over three levels, seamlessly integrates with the site's morphology, respecting urban harmony and strengthening its relationship with Busca’s historic center to the south. The ground floor has been specifically designed as a meeting point, a place where school and community intertwine, creating an open and welcoming environment. Making the project even more iconic is the large mural created by an artist on the main staircase—an artwork that not only enhances the space aesthetically but also serves as a symbol of students’ educational journey, creating both a conceptual and physical connection between different learning levels. A distinctive feature of the complex is its diamond-shaped façades, clad in porcelain stoneware by Casalgrande Padana. These surfaces reflect the hues of the urban landscape, generating dynamic plays of light throughout the day. This choice gives the building a strong visual identity, transforming it into an architectural landmark for the community.
The Polo Scolastico di Busca is a project that responds to the need to create a sustainable educational space open to the community. Its iconic X-shaped structure prioritizes social interaction, fostering student participation and autonomy. The building's configuration allows a direct connection with the outdoors and is designed to adapt to the needs of future generations, creating a place where education and community merge.
Settanta7 is an architecture studio founded in 2009 by Daniele Rangone and Elena Rionda. Today, it has 12 partners and over 130 collaborators across five locations: Milan, Turin, Tirana, Lyon, and Lisbon. The studio has completed numerous projects in Italy, promoting inclusive and accessible architecture with the goal of creating spaces that leave a positive impact on the world. Its horizontal organization and the decision-making autonomy of its teams allow the firm to successfully navigate challenges related to innovation and change, while also sharing its expertise at conferences and conventions throughout Europe. Settanta7 has received numerous national and international awards, including The Plan Award, Big See, and OICE, recognizing its dedication to excellence. Among its major projects are the Cittadella Scolastica in Castel Volturno, Bosco della Musica in Milan, the Engineering Hub at the University of Padua, and the redevelopment of the ex Scalo Ravone in Bologna.
