“This evening is a tribute to architecture,” said Nicola Leonardi, managing editor and co-founder of THE PLAN, as he opened the ceremony. “Architecture designs our cities, dialogues with nature, influences our culture and society, and helps form our personalities. It’s no coincidence that this event is being held at Fondazione Riccardo Catella, which was named after a 1990s entrepreneur who had a vision of Milan as an international city – a vision that has been successfully kept alive by his son, Manfredi”.

The Foundation was established in 2007 with the mission of promoting a culture of sustainability in land development and contributing to the quality of urban life. As its vice-president, Alida Forte Catella, pointed out, the Foundation’s headquarters were the first site to be redeveloped as part of the Milano Porta Nuova urban regeneration project. Built in the late 19th century as a rail warehouse and transformed during the 20th century into a film studio and, later, a contemporary arts space, the building has now been returned to the community following its restoration. The complex is surrounded by a large public garden, the first lot of the Biblioteca degli Alberi park.
