Rosewood Munich: Every Furnishing a Work of Art

More than a hotel, Rosewood Munich is a place where guests can let themselves be swept away by centuries of history and masterpieces of art. Nestled in the heart of old Munich, just a stone’s throw from Marienplatz, the property pays tribute to its Bavarian heritage while embracing modern design principles. The result is a style that perfectly balances Baroque, Rococo, and contemporary elements.

The interiors of this timeless property were recently reimagined by Tara Bernerd, which opted for an eclectic mix of furnishings, realized in wood, stone, natural materials, elegant finishes, and vibrant hues set against an otherwise neutral palette. In fact, the color scheme, inspired by Bauhaus principles, emphasizes natural tones, which are particularly evident in the meticulously handcrafted furniture.

Erlacher, a South Tyrol-based company specializing in custom-made furniture, was a major contributor to the project. Its work is showcased in both the common areas – from the lobby to the spa and wellness center – and in the guest rooms and suites.

The design team paid special attention to the hotel’s five exclusive, individually named suite apartments. Each one features generous spaces, custom furnishings, and a full range of guest amenities. With 250 sq. m of floor space, a fully appointed kitchen, a fireplace that connects the living room to the dining room, the König Maximilian House suite is the most impressive. But all the suite apartments feature luxurious materials (predominantly timber and marble), delicate, neutral tones for a relaxing ambiance, and expansive windows that frame views of the city skyline. The Prinzessin Ferdinande House is most notable for the interplay of light and dark tones and geometric patterns of its interiors.

Rosewood Munich’s communal spaces are equally striking, beginning with the Grand Ballroom, through meeting rooms and the two-story Asaya® Spa, inspired by the Alpine region, to the splendid Wintergarden that seamlessly extends from the lobby. Furnished by Erlacher with a large table, dessert and pastry displays, this sheltered space establishes an ongoing dialogue between architecture and nature, bridging history and modernity while encapsulating the Rosewood Munich design philosophy.
