Ideas from the territories for the future of living

How will we inhabit the future and what could be the architectural and design solutions that respond to contemporary and future needs? In an attempt to address these questions as well as important issues pertinent to the sustainability of city life, the biennial Agorà Design festival has once again this year launched a call for architects, designers, students and professionals in the sector to confront similar social and culture issues with creativity through their projects. Started in 1996, the festival this year will center on the theme of territoriality and is titled “Hyperlocal: architecture and design from the territories”. Taking place from September 28 to October 1, the four-day festival will feature an exhibition of the best participating projects, talks and master classes in the heart of Grecìa Salentina, in Martano. The call for entries is already open and will remain so until July 3.

It will be “a challenge to proximity design”, explains Lucia Rescio, president of the Agorà Design association and general manager of Sprech, the company specialized in outdoor solutions that is organizing the event and is its main sponsor. Rescio adds, “Is it possible to recover knowledge, materials and techniques from the territorial dimension to give a new impetus to the culture of design and promote concrete sustainability?” This common thread will connect both participants and territories, as the festival calls for ideas and design proposals of a local dimension that can be transformed into collective resources. The call for entries is divided into two sections: living and garden. “Living” refers to the world of interior design with its furniture complements, fabrics and coverings, while “garden” encompasses outdoor solutions, sunbeds, seating and covers.

Sprech has overseen Agorà Design since 2017, including it among its corporate social responsibility projects. The 2023 event will be an intertwining of the territorial dimension of the proposals and the international character of the event. Over the years, the festival has taken on a global scope, reflecting how important the implementation of the research is for businesses and professionals. Agorà Design wants to be the synthesis of this need.
