From May 20 to 22, 2025, Construmat returns to Barcelona — the Spanish trade fair dedicated to the construction sector. On Wednesday, May 21, the fair will host the Healthy Architecture Awards ceremony, curated by the Mies van der Rohe Foundation and sponsored by Würth España SA.
This year, 15 finalist projects from 9 different countries have been selected for their commitment to sustainable and environmentally integrated architecture.
All shortlisted projects, completed between 2020 and 2024, include both new constructions and the redevelopment of cultural heritage sites. They span across several categories — social housing, private residences, schools, hospitals, and community spaces — and stand out for their use of sustainable materials and innovative systems.
The expert committee responsible for nominating the projects includes representatives from Architecture d’Aujourd’hui (A’A’), the Architecture and Sustainability Group (AuS-COAC), the Sustainability and Architecture Association (ASA), Bauhaus-Earth, and the Green Building Council Spain (GBCe). The jury features prominent figures such as Ann Marie Aguilar, environmental architect and Senior Vice President at the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI, WELL AP), Rosa Clotet, expert in human-centered healthcare architecture and sustainable building, Eduardo Prieto, PhD architect and professor at the Technical School of Architecture of Barcelona (ETSAM-UPM).
During the fair, an exhibition will be set up at Stand B34 in Hall 2, showcasing the awarded and shortlisted projects. This will offer visitors the opportunity to explore diverse architectural solutions up close.
The Construmat Public Award will be decided through an online public vote open from April 10 to 22, with participants having the chance to win invitations to visit the exhibition.
The Construmat 2025 Healthy Architecture Awards serve as a key moment to highlight global excellence in sustainable architecture, emphasizing the crucial role of organic materials, passive systems, and contextual design in creating more environmentally respectful and sustainable spaces.
