THE STUDENT HOTEL
RIZOMA ARCHITETTURE

Co-co-co is not the name of the latest official Italian employment contract, it is an abbreviation for a new global lifestyle, Coworking, Coliving, Community. The Student Hotel (TSH) is the world’s largest fully-connected community. Thanks to the far-sightedness of its Scottish founder Charlie MacGregor, TSH started running its first spaces for students in Amsterdam in 2006, offering a new vision of conviviality. These fluid, hybrid places offer barely-sketched borders, something that makes them highly inclusive.

NOMA
BIG - BJARKE INGELS GROUP

On the south-eastern edge of Copenhagen, on one of the islets that once made up the Danish city’s wall, the BIG - Bjarke Ingels Group practice, internationally renowned for its extreme architecture, oversaw the design of a new NOMA, one of the world’s finest restaurants and a two Michelin-star establishment. This area lies between two lakes, on the edge of the Christiania community, on the site of a former military depot used in the past to store the Royal Danish Navy’s mines.

THE ZODIAC ROOM
AVROKO

The atmosphere is pure New York School, the famous informal group of American poets, painters, dancers and musicians who through action painting, jazz, improvised theater and experimental music, represented New York abstract expressionism of the ’50s and ’60s. Neiman Marcus, a renowned luxury retail chain founded in 1907, wanted to restore the spirit of the city’s avant-garde artists in the rooms of his new The Zodiac Room restaurant at Hudson Yards. To achieve this, the store commissioned AvroKO, an interior design practice that has distinguished itself in the hospitality sector through projects in 22 countries and 32 cities since 2001.

CASA GOTTARDI: A HOME WITH INDUSTRIAL ELEGANCE
ALESSANDRO BUCCI ARCHITETTI

Casa Gottardi, designed by Alessandro Bucci Architetti, combines recollections of the past with contemporary solutions to create a stimulating formal dialogue. This former light industrial building has been transformed into a home with contemporary style and an emphasis on its materials. The existing structure served as a container for the new house, which comprises open areas, bright spaces, customized furnishings, premium finishes, and materials that – partly left as-is and partly reclaimed – preserve the raw, natural look of the original.

CASA MT: A MODERN, ELEGANT RESTYLING
GIAN LUCA ZOLI ARCHITETTO

Casa MT grew out of the restoration of a farm building in rural Faenza, province of Ravenna, in the Po Valley. While the setting itself imposed no constraints, the local authorities requested that, where possible, all historical and construction features that reflect the local agricultural tradition should be retained. Prioritizing the preservation of the existing building type led to demolition and rebuilding work to restore it, along with most of its windows in their original positions.

RESIDENCE IN PRAGUE
ATELIER 111 ARCHITEKTI

A narrow street, where the sleepy character of old Jinonice, in Prague, is still preserved, broadens out to create a tiny square with a well. It was dominated by an abandoned house, formed by gradual addition of masses, some of which overtopped the original one. The complex of these small buildings, placed in the sloping garden, was in a very dilapidated uninhabitable state. The design by Atelier 111 architekti preserves only the oldest part made out of stones oriented towards the street and uses it as an entry to the main living floor in the two new masses. The tallest part is dedicated to the children. All of the living areas, including children’s bedrooms, have a direct connection to the sunlit sloping garden, which is shielded from the street by the mass of the house.
