The Emilio Ambasz Institute for the Joint Study of the Built and the Natural Environment is to be located on MoMA’s Midtown Manhattan campus, within the Department of Architecture and Design.Emilio Ambasz, who recently received his fourth Compasso d’Oro award for his work as a visionary inventor, has set the benchmark for every professional working towards a more sustainable future. According to Tadao Ando, Ambasz is the father, poet, and prophet of green architecture. He was the one who first got architects focusing on nature and the environment. In his book Green Architecture, James Wines calls him the “Messiah of green architecture” In 2014, the Istituto di Studi Avanzati (ISA) at the University of Bologna awarded him the ISA Medal for Sciences.
ATELIER TREPP: WHEN CONTEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE IMITATES NATURE
MINO CAGGIULA ARCHITECTS
With the studio for artist Alice Trepp, Mino Caggiula Architects has re-designed the forms of contemporary architecture, taking its cue from the natural landscapes of the Italian-Swiss canton of Ticino.This artist’s home-cum-studio is nestled in its natural setting, the sinuous forms enhanced by an alternation of solids and voids: unrendered reinforced concrete walls and extensive glazed lights. Very different from the vernacular architecture of the area, the new building nonetheless slips unobtrusively into its site, a synergy achieved between nature and architecture that required a solid entente between client and designer based on trust.

GREEN LINE HOUSE
MOBIUS ARCHITEKCI
Mobius Architekci's Przemek Olczyk is the architect and the author of the Green Line House project, a private home in Warmia, Poland. Green Line House was built near the lakes of the region, in perfect harmony with the landscape context. The solitary house blends in with the surroundings, lacking neighbouring buildings, away from roads. Harsh landscape prompted Przemek Olczyk, an architect and the author of the project, to use transparent and legible tectonics, thus embedding the building in the morphology of the plot.
MAGGIE’S LEEDS: HARNESSING THE WARMTH OF WOOD TO PROMOTE WELLBEING
HEATHERWICK STUDIO
Maggie’s is a charity that provides support for people with cancer. Heatherwick Studio designed the UK’s 26th Maggie’s Centre on the campus of Europe’s largest teaching hospital, St. James’s University Hospital in Leeds. The new building, Maggie’s Leeds, was built on a grassy slope, close to an existing structure, taking advantage of the twenty foot (6m) drop of the site to provide visitors with views across the Yorkshire Dales.
SPACE HOUSE: THE HOUSE OF THE FUTURE

A space-age house lands in the Verona countryside. Within an apple orchard, architect Michele Perlini created the two pure white volumes that define his Space House design. Set on a three-quarter acre (3000m2) block, the home offers 3,230 square feet (300m2) of living area over two floors. The ground floor comprises a large open space, with glazed walls offering garden views from the living, dining, and kitchen areas on two sides. The house is sufficiently large that there’s still room left over for a master bedroom with walk-in closet, study, and garage spaces.
THE BOATS, WOODEN COTTAGES WITH VIEWS OF THE TATRA MOUNTAINS
KARPIEL STEINDEL ARCHITECTURE
The Boats is a complex of wooden cottages designed by Karpiel Steindel Architecture and built in Kościelisko, Poland. While the rear face of each building is closed off to the mountain landscape to the north, to the south, they open to views across the Tatra Mountains. From the site access road, the new buildings are inconspicuous, blending in with the mountain landscape and the roofs of the town of Podhale in the distance. To the south, where the views are the most spectacular, the interiors open wide to the landscape, with large windows and spacious balconies.
GREENPORT PASSIVE HOUSE
THE TURETT COLLABORATIVE
Designed by architect Wayne Turett, principal of The Turett Collaborative, the Greenport Passive House is an all-electric energy-efficient home on the North Fork of Long Island. As is true to the Passive House movement and standards, the modern home with interior spaces that recall urban loft living, seeks to consumes about 90% less heating energy than existing homes and 75% less energy than average new construction.

New spaces, greater comfort for employees, lower energy consumption and a project based on innovative and sustainable principles: Enel has started renovating its offices on Viale Regina Margherita in Rome with a project that will radically change the building. The renovation, which covers a total surface area of around 80,000 square meters, has been designed to increase personal wellbeing through the provision of modern, comfortable workspaces conceived around the concept of more agile organization.
