The first of the two meetings in the series “Architecture and Sustainable Urban Development: the Finnish and Swiss Example” will take place on Wednesday, October 1, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Palazzina Reale in Piazza della Stazione 50, Florence. The second meeting is scheduled for October 23, 2025.
The talk will be given by Selina Anttinen and Rainer Mahlamäki, from the Finnish studios Anttinen Oiva Architects and Lahdelma & Mahlamäki, respectively.
Promoted by the Fondazione Architetti Firenze, the event is organized in collaboration with ATL – The Association of Finnish Architects’ Offices, under the patronage of the Embassy of Finland in Italy, the Ordine degli Architetti di Firenze, the CNAPPC – National Council of Architects, and DIDA – Department of Architecture – UniFi, with the contribution of ChiantiBanca.

The initiative is part of the “Glance Around” program and marks the seventh event in a series of meetings that began in 2022, curated by architect Arianna Callocchia. The aim is to foster cultural and professional dialogue and exchange between the Italian and international contexts.
The discussion will focus on Finland’s commitment to architecture and sustainable urban development, with particular emphasis on urban renewal and regeneration, highlighting the environmental, social, economic, and political impact on the territory.

The architects will present two projects in the Finnish cities of Helsinki and Oulu, selected for their particular focus on issues such as climate change, the reduction of CO₂ emissions, recycling and the circular economy, as well as respect for people and for the urban and environmental context in which they are integrated.

Participants will include Caterina Bini, President of the Fondazione Architetti Firenze, Silvia Ricceri, President of the Ordine degli Architetti di Firenze, Andrea Innocenzo Volpe, Associate Professor of Architectural and Urban Design at the Department of Architecture, UniFi, and Matti Lassila, Ambassador of Finland to Italy. The moderator will be Antonio Salvi, Board Member of the Fondazione Architetti Firenze.
Admission is free and open to the public. The presentations by the two Finnish speakers will be delivered in English.
Participation in the conference entitles architects to 2 Continuing Professional Development credits (CFP), subject to online registration.
