A Story of Outdoor Design

Tribù has participated in the project

Founded in 1966 by Henri de Cock, Belgian brand Tribù is a family-run business now in its third generation that has developed into a benchmark in high-end outdoor furniture and design. Over nearly 60 years, the brand has passed down, from generation to generation, a legacy of craftsmanship, visionary spirit and meticulous attention to detail, achieving products that are both appealing and lasting. These values have only grown stronger through collaborations with leading designers – such as Monica Armani, Yabu Pushelberg and Christophe Delcourt – and through the company’s expansion into Italy, particularly Milan, where Tribù made its debut at Salone del Mobile in 1999 as the first outdoor furniture brand to participate in the fair. The bond with Milan has deepened over time, most recently with the opening of a showroom in the Durini Design District, housed in a former industrial space that has been transformed into a refined, tranquil environment with a design ethos. Designed for an immersive experience, it allows to explore materials, textures, fabrics, and the quality and comfort of Tribù’s outdoor collections and accessories. A dedicated design team is on hand to assist in transforming personal visions into timeless outdoor spaces. Among the brand’s most important collaborations is the long-standing partnership with Monica Armani, who brought a fresh, feminine touch to Tribù from her very first collection, Tosca. Raised in close contact with nature and with architecture – thanks to her father, a rationalist architect, and their hillside villa – Armani recalls: “That is where I realized that outdoor space is an extension of the way we live. The threshold between indoors and out has never felt like a boundary to me, but rather a design opportunity”. In such a paradigm, the shared challenge is to create objects that not only harmonize with architecture and landscape, but also with the rhythms of daily life.

As mentioned, their first collaboration was the Tosca collection, defined by rounded forms, material experimentation and quiet elegance. The chairs have become iconic, instantly recognizable for their wide, enveloping vertical weave. Armani also designed the Ukiyo collection, inspired by Japanese art, and winner of the 2025 German Design Award. She drew from the lines and forms of classical Japanese architecture, from votive temples to everyday objects, as she herself recognizes: “I was inspired by the symbols and the refined culture of Japan, especially the attention to detail, which mirrors my own design esthetic. I worked on balancing curved and straight lines and on the visual weight of each element in the collection”.

Following Nomad, Cesta is Tribù’s most recent collection, in which a sculptural woven backrest takes center stage. Crafted from aluminum and rope, the chair gently swivels 360 degrees and is designed for conversation and relaxed living. The collection reflects Tribù’s ongoing dedication to craftsmanship and care, a brand philosophy rooted in creating lasting value.
