A Window System, a Universe of Design Possibilities

A window is never just a window. In Finstral’s world, it is the gateway to a universe of design possibilities. Openings become architectural instruments, shaping interiors and façades through transparency and opacity, material presence, color and shape, leaving a lasting imprint on both the space and the atmosphere. In essence, a window creates value worth preserving.

For more than 50 years, Finstral has developed its product range around these principles, focusing on modular systems designed to support architectural freedom rather than prescribe outcomes. It emphasizes creating options, not reducing them. For example: profiles span PVC, aluminum, glass, wood, ceramic and metal; colors and finishes exceed 300 options; glazing includes double and triple panes, safety glass and acoustic solutions. Frames may disappear into the architecture or be articulated through discreet detailing, with integrated security systems and sensors completing the system. All of these and other possibilities are explored in depth and in interesting detail in F_04, the fourth issue of Finstral’s magazine, published in 2025 under the title Frame Reframe. As noted in the opening editorial, the issue brings together “people with innovative ideas to explore new contexts outside the box”.

This issue of the magazine explores the theme of endless possibilities and creative freedom through conversations and interactions with professionals and architects and through Finstral’s own extensive catalog as well as by presenting some of the brand’s key projects. In this light, particularly emblematic for its free and creative use of contrasting forms and materials is Palmela, a villa designed by Portuguese architect João Completo. Here, FIN-Project Nova-line Plus 95 windows in aluminum and wood were selected, featuring flush profiles and an all-glass design, along with the FIN-Slide Slim-line 169 lift-and-slide door, also in aluminum and wood, with slim profiles and a lowered threshold. The use of spruce wood creates a striking contrast with the raw, exposed concrete walls. Finstral’s modular approach also comes into play in Mobble, a system for the construction of compact modular homes. Here, appropriately, the choice of modular window and door solutions helps avoid the visual uniformity typical of such serial building, allowing each unit to develop its own identity. While the technical interfaces remain standardized, configurations can vary substantially: profiles can be in PVC, PVC-aluminum or aluminum-wood, and elements shift between windows, French doors and panels with integrated shading. The result is a system that combines efficiency and modular logic with environmental awareness and a high degree of design specificity.
