No longer just a matter of esthetics, choosing a color is now an increasingly crucial step in any project. It is the result of a process that merges technology, functionality and design with first-hand experience that spans both the physical and the digital spheres. Systematically bringing together these elements with its expertise in wall paints, Mapei has developed Chromie Mapei, a new display concept, in both physical and digital form, aimed at designers, retailers and also end clients. Developed in collaboration with Baolab – an industrial design lab specializing in color, materials and finishes – the initiative integrates a range of presentation tools, from in-store displays to digital resources on the company’s website.

For Chromie Mapei, 24 key shades were chosen to anchor a color flow that expands into 168 hues and more than 300 total combinations, all designed to showcase the energy and visual impact of the selected paints. In its physical form, created specifically for showrooms and retail spaces, the project takes shape as an entire wall of color, where shades unfold in a flowing sequence that highlights both individual shades and notable pairings. In the online version on Mapei’s website, an interactive tool lets users play with combinations, personalize palettes and explore moods. Here, users can also download Mapei’s color libraries, access technical support and set off on a journey through color and atmosphere.

The palette spans hundreds of shades, offering endless ways to shape a room’s character in a journey through time and space. It moves from soft peach tones to delicate cherry-blossom pinks, from vibrant coral to the depth of amber earth, and even a velvety yellow inspired by summer sorbets – with countless other variations waiting to be explored.

One of paint’s most powerful qualities is its ability to stir memories of far-off places or natural elements, infusing spaces with emotion and atmosphere. Coral, for instance, adds lightness and vibrancy, conjuring carefree childhood games and summer adventures. Orange shifts constantly with natural light, its tones recalling the delicate glow of ripe fruit at harvest. Aquamarine suggests the cool freshness of a mint drink on a hot day, while at the same time visually opening up the walls, creating a sense of expansion with shimmering reflections and soft fades of light. Finally, cyclamen evokes a sense of joy and sharing, speaking directly to both the soul and the senses.
