No longer just furnishings or decorative elements, contemporary doors and windows are increasingly high-tech, innovative products that make a vital contribution to a building’s energy efficiency, ensure healthy air and maintain an optimal indoor temperature. They are a true Generation 4.0 in which cutting-edge components are increasingly integrated with smart building management systems. One example of this step into the future is the Schüco TipTronic Simply Smart system: concealed mechatronic components integrated into doors and windows that can be operated remotely – via smartphone, for instance – or using voice commands as part of a home automation system. Such technology makes it possible to preserve a crisp, minimalist design suited to elegant settings while delivering demanding levels of performance and security for doors and windows.

Key features of the Schüco TipTronic Simply Smart system include sensors for automatic opening and closing based on indoor air quality and desired temperature, or in response to inclement weather, perhaps rain or strong wind. Such a function protects both the interior and the window itself in the case of rain or wind, and it works based on constant communication between the sensors, a dedicated control unit and the home automation system. Opening and closing can also be controlled via a home automation system – sometimes even using voice commands – making it especially useful for hard-to-reach windows or skylights, as well as for monitoring window conditions and determining when maintenance is needed.

Another key feature is the integrated timer, which gives users the option to schedule actions such as closing a window or setting specific times and durations for ventilating a room. Likewise, this scheduling function can be applied to sun shading systems. These systems can be automatically adjusted based on the time of day and the position of the sun, and retracted in the case of strong winds or storms.
