Light, strong and able to be recycled again and again without degrading, aluminum stands apart for its sustainability credentials. Its carbon footprint is roughly 85% lower than that of equivalent plastic alternatives, one of the many reasons it is increasingly recognized as a true “green metal”. Building on these qualities, Euramax – a specialist in aluminum coil coating for architectural cladding, roofing and mobility applications – has long placed sustainability at the heart of its mission, investment and R&D efforts, and continues to prioritize it today. A core objective is to steadily increase the share of recycled content in its products. The environmental case is clear for aluminum as recycling this metal requires only about 5% of the energy needed to produce primary aluminum. Euramax’s coated aluminum coils are already estimated to contain close to 50% recycled material, a share the company has committed to increasing in collaboration with its suppliers. The goal is to invest in sustainability by cutting carbon emissions and accelerating the shift to renewable energy, targeting at least a 30% overall reduction in the carbon footprint of its products. By 2035, the company aims to reach an intermediate milestone of 75% recycled aluminum. By 2040, it expects to meet a far more ambitious target: 100%. In practical terms, this would mean coils made entirely from recycled material, manufactured with zero carbon emissions and supported by a fully green supply chain powered by renewable energy. Helping drive this transition are Euramax’s in-house coil-coating lines, already equipped with regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO) technology and low-emission coating systems that significantly curb environmental impact. The next step is to move all coating operations away from conventionally fueled systems (including natural-gas-powered equipment) toward low-emission and hydrogen-powered facilities.
Many of the company’s suppliers already produce certified, low-carbon aluminum, often using renewable energy sources such as hydropower or wind. Used extensively in building envelopes, Euramax solutions are helping the architecture sector take a more active role in a circular economy that places environmental impact at its core.
