The refurbishment of the François Ier building by Barthélémy Griño combines the careful renewal of the existing fabric with modern, light-filled interiors. The project restores the spatial coherence and architectural quality to a discrete ensemble located in the heart of Paris’s 8th arrondissement.

Located on rue François Ier, just steps from Avenue Montaigne, the project engages with a layered site shaped by successive phases of construction. The main Haussmann-style building and the annexe pavilion at the rear of the courtyard, both dating to the second half of the 19th century, have been rehabilitated. The third structure, a small addition built in the Seventies, was demolished and rebuilt.
Drawing on its expertise in the transformation of historic sites, Barthélémy Griño chose to enhance the existing architecture and its urban context, restoring order to the overall composition through a contemporary and functional spatial framework.

Spanning a total area of 2,770 m², the renewed complex accommodates a mixed-use programme of offices and showrooms. Generous volumes and abundant natural light define the new spatial experience. Workspaces and shared areas are conceived with a high degree of flexibility, responding to contemporary patterns of use while maintaining a calm and balanced atmosphere.
The interiors, designed by Sylvia Griño – co-founder of the studio together with Philippe Barthélémy –enhance the intrinsic quality of the spaces through bespoke furnishings and a light-toned color palette. Noble, eco-sourced materials are combined with warm accents and finely crafted details, creating interiors that are both elegant and welcoming. Generous volumes and the harmonious composition of spaces are expressed through a sober and refined design language, in tune with the project’s identity.
More than a simple refurbishment, the François Ier building proposes a contemporary vision of living and working in the city, where architectural heritage and present-day needs find a shared language.
