Conveying an Interior Design Idea

At the core of every interior design workflow in Archicad is a three-dimensional model. It underpins BIM-based design, the production of accurate, high-quality construction documentation and faster, data-driven workflows, while supporting functional interior projects aligned with client needs.
It is precisely this inherent potential – rooted in the centrality of the model – that has led to Archicad’s growing adoption in the fields of design and, in particular, interior design, where it is used across all project phases, from early concept through final presentation. This includes interactive and virtual animations that allow clients to enter and explore their future spaces in detail, well before they take shape in the built environment.

In the early design phases, visualization often begins with quick sketch-style 3D views or monochromatic images. Given the importance of time at this stage, these visuals can be produced quickly. Such visuals tend to shift the client’s attention away from finishes and color palettes, keeping the focus on the underlying design idea and avoiding unnecessary detours at an early stage in the process.

Monochromatic views can also serve as the basis for Archicad’s Concept Board, where fabrics, materials and surface samples are assembled into visual collages that translate abstract intentions into tangible references. Through a range of layouts that can be saved, printed or shared digitally, these boards make it easier to compare options and facilitate more direct selection as the interior project gradually takes concrete shape.

Highly realistic 3D representations become even more useful because of the ability to insert and progressively modify furnishings, finishes and surfaces. This is already a substantive capability, but by adding dedicated applications, further key solutions become available, including Cinerender or Twinmotion, to produce color renders and photorealistic images. The latter can also be used for the final stage of the process: project presentation.

For such presentation, various tools provide powerful opportunities. For example, BIMx allows clients to enter the three-dimensional model and move through it freely, navigating the space dynamically and interactively, while encouraging exploration and a more immersive experience of the project. To achieve this, the BIMx presentation must establish a welcoming atmosphere through carefully calibrated color.

Archicad 29 by Graphisoft builds on earlier releases with new features that optimize performance, streamline BIM workflows and extend support for design activities. Ultimately, this not only benefits the designer, but also clients in very concrete and practical terms.
