The Alto Adige firm of barth based at Bressanone has been active in the interior design sector for over half a century.
Born as a family business of artistic wood craftsmen, over the decades barth has moved beyond hand working of wood and gained know-how in other materials including glass and metals various, as well as updating its original technical expertise. Today barth is a skilful and highly dependable partner to the designer/architect, providing assistance with technical problems, a thorough knowledge of the materials and their expressive/technical scope, rounded off by quality workmanship and project execution. A valuable ally capable of taking on a full interior design project, relieving the architect of the chores of coordination and organization.
Barth concentrate principally on four sectors: museums, stores and showrooms, headquarters and private dwellings. They have many a project to their name and many in the pipeline both in Italy and throughout Europe. They have recently fitted out the Marca Corona Gallery at Sassuolo, their work extending to all the glass display units, the treads on staircases and complete wardrobe fittings; theirs too is the hand behind the Albrechtsburg Meissen Museum where the display furnishings were created from laminated aluminium sheeting with non-reflecting white glass. Woods and prestige cladding were used to fit out the first Rolex-Flagshipstore in Milan. The store’s five floors are connected by a magnificent curving staircase in tanganika, with recessed LED lighting. Barth also did the wood panelling, the furniture including plane-wood cupboards and shelving, as well as the entire bathroom and basement furnishings. Barth have also been called in by iGuzzini for their showrooms across Europe (London, Paris, Barcelona, Munich, Hamburg) and in Singapore. They have created special glass display cabinets, all sorts of office furniture, acoustic and technical false ceilings and wooden flooring.
It is not just handsome looks: technological and acoustic research has gone into wall panelling, doors and lowered ceilings for libraries, lecture halls and meeting rooms. At Rome’s Ministry of Finance and the Economy barth fitted out the lecture halls complete with hanging production booths, a multi-purpose room with a custom-built speaker’s console, a meeting room and a library; they installed doors and partitions in sound-absorbent material to the architects’ specifications.
Another project finished keys in hand by barth is the interior of the Centro Helvetia in Milan, from its chestnut sound-proof panelling to false ceilings and automatic sliding doors, a gratifying blend of practicality and good looks.
At present the company is fitting out interiors for Microsoft (special custom-built furnishings for the Peschiera Borromeo headoffice), Technogym Cesena (mobile partitions, panelling and furniture), and the raked auditorium floor for the new Vodafone Village management complex in Milan. Barth’s ability to handle a whole interior design project, keys in hand with a guarantee of quality and maximum personalization, has also marked them out as the partner in many private home projects where clever use of materials has enabled them to create the indoor atmosphere the architects and clients were seeking.
