Like mountaineering, mountain architecture demands respect for place, deep local knowledge, and an authentic relationship with the natural environment. This awareness informed the work of 20th-century architects such as Gio Ponti, Mario Cereghini, Carlo Mollino, and Edoardo Gellner, who met the challenge and left a legacy of construction techniques and design sensibilities that continue to influence contemporary practice. La Vetta, a residential project, draws on this legacy – Mollino’s and Gellner’s in particular – and translates it into a contemporary design language that merges Slik Architekten’s architecture with Park’s interior design.

Located in the heart of Andermatt, a charming Alpine village nestled among the main Swiss passes, La Vetta is an ideal base for nature lovers seeking both relaxation and outdoor activities. The region caters to a full range of winter sports, with the largest ski area in Central Switzerland, cross-country trails, hiking paths, and an ice-skating rink. Located near the St. Gotthard Pass and an hour from Lake Como, Andermatt is a cultural crossroads where Swiss tradition meets Italian design influence. The name La Vetta (the peak) signals both the site’s summit and the project’s design ambition. Inside, the apartments reflect this dual influence, combining Park’s Italian interiors with Slik Architekten’s Swiss architectural identity.
The complex includes 14 apartments and four penthouses, each with private loggias and views of the plaza and surrounding panorama. Arranged over six levels, the units have several layouts and are distinguished by three principal color palettes inspired by the local flora: Red Berries, Velvet Blue, and Sugar Gray. Materials, colors, and geometries engage the landscape in a harmonious dialogue, producing essential, intimate interiors. The extensive use of wood provides a smooth transition between spaces and gives each room a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Custom furnishings and curated materials prioritize both esthetics and performance, ensuring comfort and functionality. Several furniture pieces custom-designed by Park attest to craftsmanship, design research, and bespoke detailing.

With double-height ceilings, large windows, and loggias offering unobstructed views of the Lepontine Alps, the penthouses further elevate this design language.
Park’s commission extended beyond the rooms to the common areas, where it created bright, village-facing communal spaces designed to promote well-being and social life. The spa (with a sauna and steam room), fitness area, yoga room, and dedicated ski- and bike-storage spaces make the building a luxury retreat in every sense.
