A comfortable, harmonious, and at times magical environment, created by volumes, geometries, architectures, and materials in perfect balance with each other. In the mind of architect and interior designer Misa Poggi, these are the values that most prominently shape an innovative and contemporary yacht, in line with today’s standards and needs; and these are the characteristics that define Swan 88, whose interior design she curated. It is an essential yacht, timeless in its classicism and elegance, while at the same time a milestone for the Finnish Nautor Swan shipyard. Swan 88 is the first model developed with hybrid electric propulsion, thanks to the collaboration with Torqeedo. This sailing yacht, the first model of which was named DreamCatcher, is also the result of a renewed partnership between Misa Poggi, Germán Frers for naval architecture, and Lucio Micheletti of the Micheletti+Partners studio for the design of outdoor spaces.

Designed and built to unite the comfort and hospitality of long-distance cruise ships and the soul of racing vessels, Swan 88 makes its outdoor deck, featuring delicate, sleek lines, the heart of life at sea. The deck is characterized by a distinctive glazed hatch, and even more strongly by a stern with two small steps leading to the swim platform. The latter, which opens from the transom and conceals a generous storage space, is composed of two folding sections, thus creating a spacious beach club jutting out over the sea, perfect for enjoying time at anchor. The same goes for the cockpit: the modular benches of the dining area make the space flexible and modifiable according to the needs and number of passengers.

The descent from the spacious cockpit, the interior spaces and the entire main lounge – furnished with a dinette, storage ottomans, and couches with welcoming shapes – are illuminated with natural light that filters in from the unique hatch and the numerous other windows and portholes. This creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, accentuated by the wood paneling and fine fabrics of the furniture, like linen and cotton. The light oak wood, in particular, gives the yacht a sophisticated atmosphere, calling to mind warm and sunny places. The tones are delicate, and the color palette is shared by the various cabins located fore and aft. The layout options available to the owner are different, with the standard one featuring four twin aft cabins and two more at the stern, one luxurious guest cabin and the owner’s cabin. This latter spacious cabin is most forward and is equipped with all amenities, starting from a private bathroom. Aft, there is a galley with a second dinette and a crew area directly connected to the cockpit.

There are many accessories and equipment that require energy to make navigation of the highest quality: in the case of Swan 88, the Deep Blue management system generates clean energy during navigation and can simultaneously monitor the management of all on-board systems.Disegnato dal vento - ©Eva-Stina Kjellman, courtesy Nautor Swan

In this project, the reinterpretation of tradition and the classicism of icons of the past in a contemporary key has led to performance lines capable of creating smooth, comfortable navigation even in difficult sea conditions, with an optimized heeling angle: “Swan 88 marks an important milestone in the production of the shipyard”, stated Giovanni Pomati, CEO of Nautor Group. “It is the first hybrid-powered yacht that has contributed to the study and development of the same features across the entire range, not just on maxi yachts”.
