In the design of the interior and exterior of his first yacht, the CLX96 of CL Yachts, Jozeph Forakis favored a bold, daring and functional approach, moving away from the well-established conventions of the boating world. In responding to the brand’s requests to rethink the traditional yacht forms and consequently the actual experience of sailing, his studio – joined by naval architect Earl Alfaro – has created an innovative model, starting from its lines and the constant presence of large windows, particularly on the two upper decks. The resulting design therefore represents a careful process of research to offer passengers holistic immersion in a marine environment.
The oblique lines give CLX96 an easily recognizable personality, providing rhythm to both the exterior and interior spaces, exemplified by the forward sloping windows on the main deck and the upper deck with the cockpit. These windows reduce glare and heat input to the interior, giving the impression of larger, brighter and more airy spaces. The same oblique lines, highlighted by the nearby parapets, are also found on the interior, specifically in the cabin windows open to the hull. Like all the other openings of the yacht, they guarantee visual and physical continuity between the indoors and outdoors, that is, a 360-degree connection to the sea, regardless of the activity. The heart of the main deck, devoted to sociality and sharing, is an aft lounge, connected to the dining area, which features a large table for lunches and dinners. A large trifold, full-height glass door leads to the outdoor walkway, which runs all the way around. Towards the bow, there is a fully equipped kitchen which looks onto the Piazza del Sole, an additional outdoor lounge with circular sofas and sunbeds.
The Piazza del Sole is not the only part of the boat which privileges open-air living and socializing: on the main deck there is another aft lounge, covered and able to be enjoyed at all hours of the day – for breakfast, aperitif or post-dinner drinks with a sea view. This area features a configurable sofa, piano bar and cocktail area. The bridge deck, or sky deck, is similarly equipped with two open areas, one looking towards the stern and the other towards the bow, called the Terrazza Portoghese. The importance of these moments of relaxation and conviviality in life on board is reflected even on the highest point of this yacht. The transom is spacious and respectful of these typical lines of CLX96. A platform opens and extends from it, allowing guest to enjoy the sun’s rays and the sea breeze.
The tones of the exteriors are echoed in the interiors by the furnishing and materials, like the Nero Marquina marble and the Fiocco di Neve white satin finish for the countertops. Wood gives an additional touch of warmth, such as the walnut on the walls. Teak and holly tie the main deck to the upper deck but also characterize the lower deck dedicated to the owner’s suite and the guest cabins, which are configurable with single or double beds. The atmosphere of calm and tranquility is created by the generous spaces and enveloping environment, but also by the natural light that floods the room from the sides and the ceiling. It is a true sanctuary of well-being in contact with the sea.
