The sea takes centerstage in this renovation of a stylish home on the Gulf of Trieste. Overlooking the coast, the house was built in the 1950s using stone from Muggia. The renovation features contemporary materials and furnishings, with décor inspired by luxury yachts. The work of architecture and engineering firm i3Studio, the project very much reflects the owners’ predilection for nautical themes. The master bedroom, on the lower floor, and the guest rooms, upstairs, all have sea views. On the middle level, a large patio with a disappearing swimming pool also offers sea vistas. As do the main sections of the home, while also creating an exchange between inside and out reminiscent of a luxury yacht. The living room is set slightly back to optimize comfort and natural light levels, while the kitchen and dining room – that is, the rooms most used by the family – project out towards the coastal landscape. These spaces have fully retractable sliding French doors that lead to elegant terraces with glass balustrades and T-Hide awnings with extendable arms manufactured by Pratic.

Along the terraces in front of the living area and the bedrooms on the first floor, three T-Hide awnings provide shade and heat protection for both indoor and outdoor spaces. The units have a valance that further attenuates the sun’s intensity when the awnings are lowered. Both effective and stylish, this sunshading system was designed and installed by Ronchi dei Legionari-based retailer Casa del Salotto Tendaggi Ceschia to adapt perfectly to the home. Pratic T-Hide awnings are made to measure. The widths used for this project range from 13 to 23 feet (4–7 m) in order to emphasize the profile of the glazed walls and the aesthetics of the home in general. This also motivated the choice of grays for the canopies and aluminum structure, the latter comprising a discreet cassette cover, which protects the cloth from the salt air and weather, and arms that adjust both vertically and horizontally.

Stable and hardwearing, the T-Hide arms fold away automatically in strong wind thanks to an integrated anemometer that ensures the safety of the awning. A tap on the remote control adjusts shading, ventilation, and temperature. The unit also turns on and adjusts the intensity of LED lighting fitted on the cover and front. Their warm white light illuminates the outdoor area with elegance, creating the perfect atmosphere for enjoying the outdoors after sunset, amid sea breezes and the sound of the waves.
