Nature and the sea inspired its forms and design, producing a meeting of luxury and the raw beauty of the marine world that merges Mediterranean elegance with Middle Eastern ornament. The result is an iconic architectural structure where every element speaks to the identity of the Bulgari Resort in Dubai, designed by ACPV Architects Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel on the exclusive Jumeira Bay.  Everything was conceived and built in total harmony with the surrounding environment – in fact, to celebrate it. The sea, the sunlight reflected on the water and the horizon become central elements of the interiors too, thanks to expansive views that open the rooms to the outside. Marine references are woven into countless details, such as the coral motif that wraps the façade. In this way, the architecture feels as though it rises naturally from the sea, in a masterful synthesis with the signature style of the Bulgari brand.

For this project, a vital contribution came from Carminati, a company specializing in door and window systems. The firm rose to meet design challenges that the architects themselves described as being “social in nature”, namely, to “create a living space on a newly born island”, just a stone’s throw from the desert, and to “foster a sense of community and closeness”. Hence the decision to use expansive sliding doors and full-height glazing. They chose Carminati’s Skyline Minimal Frames, which are ultra-slim, understated and designed to keep the landscape front and center. Special care was given to the natural materials: a warm, pale-toned oak, selected for its softness and elegance, and a bronze-colored aluminum cladding, chosen for its durability and resistance to the coastal elements.

The exceptionally large, glazed surfaces – reaching up to 4 m in height and subject to significant static and dynamic loads, including wind pressure – called for the development of a tailor-made reinforcement solution for the frames. Carminati engineered a custom system that integrates a metal structure between the lift-and-slide openings and their fixed transoms. At the heart of the system is a composite beam, specially designed to maintain the thinness of the frame profile while ensuring structural performance. Three welded steel tubes were inserted into the cavity between the two frames, forming a rigid and concealed reinforcement.

The horizontal crosspiece was deliberately thinned to preserve the minimal esthetic, while still meeting all technical requirements, and in doing so, it became a visually striking architectural detail in its own right.

Taken as a whole, it is a modern, high-performance system. It is an intelligent approach to doors and windows that combines advanced engineering with refined esthetics, perfectly aligned with the distinctive identity of the Bulgari Resort.
